Puff Climb

Shield your balloon as it floats up and up. Puff Climb is a free one-finger arcade game. Drag a shield to knock blocks, spiky bars and spinning sticks away from your rising balloon and climb high.

How to play

A pink balloon floats upward at a steady pace, swaying gently from side to side. It can’t steer and it can’t stop. Your job is to keep it safe. Drag anywhere on the screen to move a glowing blue shield. The shield is solid: anything it touches is shoved away. On a touch screen the shield floats just above your fingertip so you can always see it. With a mouse it sits right under the pointer, and on a keyboard you can move it with the arrow keys or WASD.

Obstacles come down toward the balloon from above:

  • Blocks are chunky orange squares that tumble as they fall.
  • Spike bars are long red bars with white spikes on the underside.
  • Spinners are purple sticks and crosses that turn as they drift.

If any obstacle touches the balloon, it pops and the run is over. The shield itself never hurts the balloon, so you can slide it right in front for a last-second save.

Obstacles also bump into each other. A hard flick of the shield sends a block spinning into a bar and knocks both off course, and a quick sweep can clear a whole group at once.

Scoring

Your score is how high you climb, in metres. It ticks up all the time while the balloon is alive, and a message pops up at every 100 metres. As you rise, the sky darkens and fills with stars.

Difficulty

The game starts with single blocks. New shapes join in as you climb: pairs, spike bars, spinners, falling groups, gates with gaps, and later whirling crosses. The balloon also rises faster, so obstacles arrive closer together, and from around 300 metres two patterns can appear back to back.

Tips

  • Push sideways, not straight down. Shove an obstacle away from the balloon’s column rather than into it.
  • Meet danger early. Fast flicks give obstacles more speed. It is easier to nudge something while it is still high on the screen.
  • Watch for the red ring. It appears around the balloon when something is close.
  • Use the crowd. Knocking one obstacle into another can clear two threats with one move.
  • Don’t hover over the balloon. Keep the shield a little above it so you have room to react.

Why it’s fun

Puff Climb is calm one moment and frantic the next. One finger and a simple rule make it easy to learn, and the physics make every save feel a little different. Your best height is saved on your device.
