Puck Duel

Neon air hockey for two on one phone. Puck Duel is a free air hockey 2 player game on one phone. Face a friend across the screen or take on the CPU, and be first to score 7 goals.

How to play

Puck Duel is a 2 player air hockey game made for one phone lying on a table. One player sits at each end. Red defends the bottom goal and Blue defends the top one. Your mallet lives in your own half of the table, and you move it by dragging a finger across your half. Use the mallet to hit the puck into your opponent’s goal.

Both players can touch the screen at the same time. Each finger controls the mallet in the half where it first went down, so there’s no waiting for turns. The score at the top player’s end is turned around so they can read it too.

On the setup screen, tap the Blue seat to switch it to CPU if you’d like to play alone. When a CPU is playing, you can drag anywhere on the screen to move your mallet. You can also pick a CPU level: Easy, Normal or Hard.

On a computer, move the mouse to steer the bottom mallet. The arrow keys also work. If the top seat is a person, they use W A S D.

Rules

  • The puck bounces off the walls and off the mallets, and it picks up speed from a fast swing.
  • A goal counts when the whole puck is through the opening in the short wall. The posts on each side of the opening can send the puck ricocheting away.
  • After a goal there is a short pause, and the puck restarts at rest on the side of the player who just conceded.
  • The first player to 7 goals wins the match.

Tips

  • Don’t chase everything. Slide back in front of your goal after every hit.
  • Use the walls. A bank shot off the side wall is harder to read than a straight one.
  • Hit it hard, not often. A quick, short swing sends the puck much faster than a slow push.
  • Against the CPU, the Easy level reacts slowly and aims badly. Hard reacts quickly and reads bounces, so keep your shots angled.

Why it’s fun

A match takes a couple of minutes, the puck leaves a glowing trail, and every goal gets a flash and a shake. Pass the phone to a friend, play first to 7, then swap sides and go again.
